The holidays have a funny way of sneaking up on us. One minute you’re sipping coffee in October, and the next you’re panicking because you’ve been invited to a cookie exchange and have nothing prepared. Sound familiar? 😅 Don’t worry—these Peppermint Oreo Truffles are here to save the day.

When we first shared this recipe I got a call from a parent about how much this recipe saved her. It was one of those typical times where her kiddo forgot to mention that everyone had to bring in a treat the next morning for class. It was 10:00pm. Sound familiar? Well since she had this recipe she was able to whip these up within 30 minutes and be fully ready for the next morning with little to no stress.

Other than “life saving” (lol) these truffles have become such a go to for us for gifting. Rich, chocolatey, and covered in creamy white chocolate with a peppermint crunch, they’re the kind of treat that feels elegant and festive but takes less than an hour to make. And since they’re no-bake, you don’t even need to preheat the oven.

Is this budget-friendly?

Yes! This recipe uses everyday ingredients: Oreos, cream cheese, peppermint extract, white chocolate, and candy canes. Even during the holiday splurge season, you can whip these up without breaking the bank. Bonus: you’ll look like the person who spent all afternoon baking, when in reality you pulled this together in under an hour. We were able to make these with little to no warning out of what we had in our cupboards! We know our pantry looks a little different than most but we believe this one might be easier for some of you.

Don’t want to shell out the cash for name brand Oreos? Don’t! We used Oreos on this day for photos, but every time after? We’ve been using the no name brand ones from Aldi, Target, and wherever else we can. Nothing wrong with finding a good deal!

Why you’ll love it

Truffles always feel special, but this version is extra perfect for Christmas gatherings. Here’s why:

  • Fast & no-bake – ready in less than an hour.
  • Festive flavor – chocolate + peppermint = instant holiday cheer.
  • Pretty presentation – the crushed candy cane topping makes them look straight out of a bakery.
  • Crowd-pleaser – kids love them, adults love them, and they’re always gone first.

If you love this, you’ll love these no-bakes

Ingredients

  • 400g Oreos (36–40 cookies)
  • 225g cream cheese, softened
  • 2 drops peppermint essence
  • 340g white candy melts or white chocolate
  • 2 candy canes, crushed (for topping)

Equipment: food processor or rolling pin, mixing bowl, spatula, baking sheet, parchment paper. We used a blender instead of a food processor as this was one of our first recipes in a new kitchen and it worked great!

Directions

  1. Crush the Oreos – blitz in a food processor or smash in a bag until fine crumbs.
  2. Mix with cream cheese & peppermint – stir until you have a dough-like texture.
  3. Form truffles – roll into 20–24 balls, place on a lined tray, and chill 10 minutes.
  4. Melt white chocolate – microwave in 30-second bursts or use a double boiler.
  5. Dip & decorate – coat each truffle in melted chocolate, then sprinkle crushed candy cane on top.
  6. Let set – refrigerate 15 minutes until firm. (Or freeze over night, no timeline on this, they just need at least 15 minutes in the fridge)

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make Peppermint Oreo Truffles ahead of time?

Yes! These truffles are one of the best make-ahead holiday treats. They hold up beautifully in the fridge for up to 7 days. If you’re prepping for a cookie exchange, dinner party, or just want to get some baking (well, no-baking!) out of the way, you can make them a few days in advance and they’ll still taste just as fresh.

Can I freeze these truffles?

Definitely. Peppermint Oreo Truffles freeze well for up to 2 months. For best results, freeze them before adding the crushed candy cane topping, since peppermint can get sticky in the freezer. When you’re ready to serve, thaw them overnight in the fridge, then decorate with fresh candy cane bits for that festive crunch.

What kind of white chocolate works best?

Candy melts are the easiest option since they melt smoothly and harden quickly. But if you prefer a richer flavor, go with real white chocolate. Just remember: white chocolate can be temperamental, so melt it slowly and stir often. Adding a teaspoon of vegetable oil can help keep it silky and smooth.

Can I use a different cookie instead of Oreos?

Yes! Oreos are classic, but you can swap in any chocolate sandwich cookie. You can even try golden Oreos for a sweeter, less intense chocolate flavor, or chocolate chip cookies if you want something a little different.

Is there a way to make these truffles dairy-free?

You can! Use a dairy-free cream cheese alternative (like cashew or soy-based versions) and dairy-free white chocolate chips. The texture will be slightly different, but the flavor is still delicious.

Do I have to use peppermint?

Not at all. Peppermint makes these truffles festive, but you can leave it out if you’re not a fan of mint. Other flavor extracts like almond, orange, or even vanilla work beautifully with the Oreo base.

Can I double the recipe?

Yes! This recipe doubles (or even triples) easily, which is great if you’re feeding a crowd. Just be sure to work in batches when melting chocolate so it doesn’t seize up before you’ve finished dipping.

How do I keep the chocolate coating neat?

Here are a few tricks:

  • Chill the rolled truffles before dipping so they stay firm.
  • Use a fork to lift truffles out of the chocolate and gently tap off excess.
  • Place them on parchment paper so they don’t stick as they set.

How long can Peppermint Oreo Truffles sit out at room temperature?

They’re best kept chilled, but they’ll hold up for about 2 hours at room temperature—perfect for a party dessert table. After that, the cream cheese filling may get too soft, so keep extras in the fridge until you need them.

How to store these truffles

Keep the truffles in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days. For longer storage, freeze them, separating layers with parchment so they don’t stick together. They’re best served chilled so the chocolate stays firm.

The final forkful

There’s nothing quite like the combination of cool peppermint, creamy chocolate, and crunchy candy cane—it just tastes like Christmas. 🎄 These Peppermint Oreo Truffles prove that holiday desserts don’t have to be complicated to impress. Whip them up, share them with friends, and watch them disappear.

Much love,
