I have a very real, very ongoing obsession with chocolate orange.

Not just during the holidays. Not just when it’s “in season.” I’m always trying to find new ways to bring that flavor combo into desserts that actually make sense year-round. I’ve done it in a no-bake cheesecake and Christmas Truffles but this one might be my favorite yet.

With possets having a moment right now, we started playing around with how to turn that classic citrus dessert into something a little more indulgent, but still light enough for spring and summer.

These Chocolate Tangerine Possets are exactly that. Creamy, silky, bright from the citrus, but with just enough chocolate to give you that nostalgic chocolate-orange hit without making it feel heavy.

Oh did I mention!? We’re using tangerines as edible dessert bowls. Slice, scoop, fill, chill. That’s it. It looks fancy, feels elevated, and honestly makes you look like you tried way harder than you did.

Chocolate Tangerine Possets Recipe

Makes 6 servings

Ingredients

For the possets:

  • 6 tangerines (used as cups)
  • Zest of 1 additional tangerine
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate (or cocoa powder)
  • ½ cup fresh tangerine juice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

For garnish:

Directions

Prep your tangerine bowls
Slice the tops off your tangerines and carefully scoop out the flesh, keeping the shells intact. If you notice any small holes, wrap a bit of tape around the outside to hold their shape while they set.

Build the cream base
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, sugar, and tangerine zest. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a gentle simmer.

Add the chocolate
Stir in the chocolate and let it melt fully into the cream.

Let it reduce
Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t scorch. The mixture will slightly thicken and deepen in color.

Add the citrus
Stir in the tangerine juice and lemon juice. This is what helps the posset set into that signature silky texture.

Strain until smooth
Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a heat-safe container to remove zest and any pulp.

Fill the tangerine cups
Carefully pour the mixture into your prepared tangerine shells (or ramekins if preferred).

Chill to set
Lightly cover and refrigerate for at least an hour, or until fully set.

Serve
Top each with a spoonful of orange curd and a mint leaf for that bright, fresh finish.

📌 Pin Me

These chocolate tangerine possets are basically made for Pinterest. They’ve got that glossy, citrus-shell aesthetic with a rich chocolate twist that makes them stand out from every other no-bake dessert.

Save this one — it’s a showstopper without the stress.

âť“ FAQ

Can I really use tangerine peels as bowls?

Yes! Just scoop them carefully and keep the shells intact. They’ll hold their shape perfectly once the posset sets.

Will the chocolate overpower the citrus?

Nope! It’s more of a balanced chocolate-orange flavor. The citrus keeps it light and fresh.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Definitely. These are perfect for prepping a few hours ahead or even the day before.

Do I have to strain the mixture?

For the smoothest texture, yes. It removes zest and pulp so you get that classic silky finish.

What kind of chocolate should I use?

Cocoa powder, dark chocolate, or even milk chocolate all work. It just depends how rich or sweet you want it.
