Method
- Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in the hibiscus petals. Let them steep for 10 to 15 minutes, until the liquid is a deep crimson color. The longer it steeps, the stronger and more floral the flavor will be. You can steep it up to 30 minutes for a punchier concentrate.4 cups water, ½ cup dried hibiscus petals
- Strain the petals using a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth and discard or compost them.
- While the hibiscus tea is still warm, stir in your sweetener of choice until fully dissolved. We use ½ cup of sugar, but feel free to adjust this depending on your preference.½ cup sugar
- In a large pitcher, combine the hibiscus concentrate, remaining 2 cups of cold water, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir well and taste. Adjust sweetener or lemon as needed.4 cups water, ½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
