Sippin’ Pretty: NEW Watermelon Lemon Mint Margaritas
The Juicy, Boozy Sip of Summer You Didn’t Know You Needed: The Watermelon Margarita

I’m sure we have mentioned it before, but Thomas’ dad Dave is the king of margaritas. As we head into the summer months, we thought it would be close to a literal crime to NOT have a margarita recipe on our website. Fun fact: The day we made these Dave actually texted us that he also made a similar drink on the same day! So this is basically Dave approved.
Move over, basic lime margaritas—there’s a new queen in town. Our Watermelon Lemon Mint Margarita is a cocktail with serious main character energy. It’s refreshing, a little flirty, and ridiculously easy to make. It checks all the boxes for a warm-weather winner:
- Fresh fruit? Check.
- Herbal notes? Check.
- Just the right amount of tequila? Big check.
This isn’t just a drink—it’s an experience. Whether you’re hosting brunch with the girls, chilling poolside with a playlist, or throwing a full-blown backyard bash, this watermelon margarita brings the vibe. It’s the drink that makes people say, “Wait—what’s in this?!” and demand the recipe.

Why This Watermelon Margarita Is a Vibe
If you’re the type who likes your cocktails light, fresh, and Instagram-worthy, this is your signature sip. We’ve taken everything good about summer and shaken it into one perfect glass.
- Hydrating and cooling: Thanks to watermelon and mint, it keeps you cool even when the party’s heating up.
- Naturally sweetened: No syrups, no added sugar—just the natural sweetness of watermelon.
- Customizable: Make it spicy, make it frozen, make it in a pitcher. You’re the boss.
We call it spa water’s fun cousin. Because this drink is just as refreshing—but with tequila.

Ingredients (makes 1)
- 1.5 oz silver or blanco tequila
- 0.5 oz triple sec
- Splash of fresh lemon juice (about ½ oz or a generous squeeze)
- 200 ml watermelon juice (fresh is best!)
- 1 sprig of fresh mint (plus more for garnish)
- Ice
- Salt or sugar for rimming (optional but totally fabulous)

How to Make a Single Serve of the Watermelon Margarita
- Optional but recommended: Rim your glass by running a lemon wedge around the edge and dipping into sugar or salt. Adds major flair.
- Add tequila, triple sec, watermelon juice, lemon juice, and a mint sprig to a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake for 15 seconds like you’re waking up your weekend.
- Strain into a glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with mint or a baby watermelon wedge. Cheers!

How to Juice a Watermelon (No Fancy Equipment Required)
Let’s talk juice. Sure, you can buy pre-bottled watermelon juice at some stores—but when it’s peak summer and fresh watermelons are everywhere, nothing beats making your own. It’s naturally sweet, super hydrating, and way more flavorful than anything from a carton. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Choose the Right Watermelon
You want one that’s:
- Heavy for its size
- Dull on the outside (shiny usually means under-ripe)
- Has a creamy yellow field spot (not white or greenish)
Seedless is easiest, but if you’ve got a seeded one, no stress—we’re straining it anyway.
Step 2: Cube It Up
- Slice your watermelon in half.
- Cut into wedges, then remove the rind and cut the flesh into 1-2 inch chunks.
- If you see big black seeds, pull them out to make blending easier.
Step 3: Blend
- Add about 4 cups of cubed watermelon to a high-speed blender.
- You don’t need to add water—the watermelon has plenty of liquid on its own.
- Add your lemon juice and mint at this stage if you’re batching for a crowd.
- Blend on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until smooth and frothy.
Step 4: Strain
This is optional if you like a pulpy juice, but for cocktails, a silky texture is best.
- Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag into a large bowl or pitcher.
- Use a spoon to gently stir the pulp in the strainer so the juice drains through faster.
- Discard or compost the pulp (or freeze into ice cubes for smoothies!).
Voilà—fresh watermelon juice that’s sweet, smooth, and cocktail-ready. Use it immediately, or store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Big Batch? No Problem
If you’re making these Watermelon Margaritas for a party (10+ people), go blender-style:
- Blend about 4 cups of fresh watermelon with ½ cup lemon juice and a generous handful of mint.
- Strain it through a fine mesh sieve to remove the pulp.
- Stir in 1 ½ cups tequila and ½ cup triple sec (scale as needed).
- Chill until ready to serve and pour over ice when guests arrive.
You can even make this a frozen margarita by blending everything with ice. Think watermelon slushie… but boozy.
Hosting Tip: Make a Margarita Bar!
This watermelon margarita is so crowd-friendly. Here’s a quick setup idea if you’re entertaining:
- One big pitcher of base mix (watermelon, lemon, mint)
- Bowls with lemon wedges, mint sprigs, and chili lime salt
- A couple bottles of tequila and triple sec on the side
- Ice buckets + a shaker for guests to mix their own
It’s interactive, customizable, and keeps you out of the kitchen.
Variations You’ll Love
Want to spice things up or swap in what you’ve got? Here are some quick remixes:
- Make it spicy: Add a slice of jalapeño to your shaker.
- Try basil instead of mint: Earthier and totally garden-chic.
- Add cucumber: Especially good for batching—blend with watermelon.
- Go zero-proof: Sub tequila for Seedlip Grove 42 or a splash of soda water.

Health(ish) Perks
It’s a cocktail, yes—but it’s a smart one.
- Watermelon is super hydrating and packed with lycopene, an antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage.
- Mint aids digestion and helps cool you down.
- Lemon gives your immune system a little boost thanks to its vitamin C content.
No artificial mixes or added sugars here—just real ingredients, real flavor, real good times.
What to Serve With It
We love this margarita with anything grilled or light:
- Baja fish tacos
- Watermelon cabbage salad (yep, matchy-matchy and delicious)
- Guac with a big squeeze of lime
- Cilantro-lime rice bowls
- A summery goat cheese tartine (you know the one)
It’s also an excellent choice for brunch when you’re just not in the mood for a mimosa
