Why You’ll Love This Savory Yogurt Bowl
- High in protein. Greek yogurt is rich in protein, making this a filling and nutritious snack or light meal.
- Naturally sweetened. No added sugar necessary—the strawberries and blueberries provide plenty of natural sweetness.
- Super fast to prepare. We’re talking 5 minutes or less. No cooking, no fuss.
- Perfect for hot days. When the oven’s off-limits and you need something cool and satisfying.
- Beautiful presentation. Looks like something you’d get from a fancy brunch spot—but it’s totally doable at home.

Ingredients You’ll Need
This recipe is incredibly flexible and forgiving, but we recommend sticking to plain, low-fat Greek yogurt for the best flavor and texture.
- ¾ to 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (low-fat or full-fat—just make sure it’s unflavored)
- 3–4 fresh strawberries, sliced
- ¼ cup fresh blueberries
- 2–3 basil leaves, cut into thin ribbons (chiffonade)
- 1 tsp balsamic reduction, for drizzling (store-bought or homemade)

How to Make This Savory Yogurt with Berries and Basil
Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients
Wash your berries and basil. Slice the strawberries thinly and chiffonade the basil (stack the leaves, roll them up, and slice into ribbons).
Step 2: Assemble the Bowl
Add the Greek yogurt to a shallow bowl or wide cup. Spread it evenly using the back of a spoon.
Step 3: Add the Toppings
Arrange the strawberries and blueberries across the yogurt. Sprinkle the basil ribbons over the top.
Step 4: Drizzle the Balsamic
Using a spoon or small squeeze bottle, drizzle the balsamic reduction across the top. This adds depth, tang, and a gorgeous sheen.
Step 5: Serve Immediately
Enjoy this chilled as-is or with a slice of crusty sourdough or crackers for extra crunch.

Make It Your Own: Tips and Customization Ideas
One of the best parts about this dish is its versatility. Here are a few easy swaps and additions:
- Add crunch: Try toasted almonds, pistachios, or pumpkin seeds for a bit of bite.
- Change up the herbs: Basil is gorgeous here, but mint or thyme work beautifully, too.
- Try other berries: Raspberries and blackberries are also delicious and add color.
- Go full savory: Omit the fruit and top with olive oil, tomatoes, cucumbers, and za’atar.
- Add protein: Top with hemp hearts, roasted chickpeas, or even a soft-boiled egg for a complete light meal.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt?
Yes, but we recommend sticking to Greek yogurt for the thicker texture and higher protein. Regular yogurt is a bit looser and may not hold the toppings as well. Plus the tang of the greek yogurt really brings it all together!
What is balsamic reduction, and where do I find it?
Balsamic reduction is balsamic vinegar that’s been simmered down into a syrup. It’s sweet, tangy, and perfect for drizzling. You can make it at home by reducing balsamic vinegar on the stove or buy it bottled in most grocery stores near the vinegars.
Can I prep this in advance?
Yes and no. You can slice the fruit and prep the yogurt base in advance, but it’s best assembled just before serving so the berries stay fresh and the basil doesn’t wilt.
Is this recipe vegetarian or gluten-free?
Yes, this recipe is vegetarian and naturally gluten-free. Just make sure your balsamic reduction doesn’t contain any additives if you’re strictly gluten-free.
How can I make it dairy-free?
Swap the Greek yogurt for a dairy-free alternative like almond, cashew, or coconut yogurt. Choose one with minimal added sugar and a neutral flavor.

As always…
Much love,

This sounds so delicious! I love the sweet and savory element!
I was pretty nervous when I first tried it out – but that strawberry/balsamic/basil combo is just so strong!
I love the idea of balsamic being added into yogurt. This will be perfect for a summer picnic, so will definitely give it a try!
Thank you! It really brought a lot of life to the yoghurt. It does bleed a fair bit over time though, so if you want to take picnic photos I would try and drizzle it on right before serving.
